W2 Recording and Recap: Effective Facilitation

Apologies for the delay!

Effective Facilitation: Week Two Recap

Thank you again for joining week two of our Effective Facilitation workshop! Shoutout to YouTube for picking a very accurate thumbnail for the video. Here’s what we covered:

  • We did an improv exercise that helped us tap into our authentic form of public speaking, and reviewed how it reflects and contrasts with our work as facilitators

  • We discussed the importance of discomfort in shifting our perception, and how we can invite people into spaces to explore their relationship to discomfort

  • We discussed this week’s homework assignment, which is practicing our own form of “expertise” and exploring different ways to hold space

Our next session is Monday, July 1 at 3pm EST. Here is the link. See you then!

Homework

Practice a 2 minute introduction on any topic. Have three key points you’d like to include (like the three objects we used in the improv)! Choose something that you feel comfortable with, like what you do for work or your favorite movie.

Then, introduce one way to make each point interactive – moving the conversation from one expert to collective expertise. You can use any of these tactics below, or something else entirely!

Active Engagement

  • Open-ended questions

  • Small breakout groups

  • Self-reflection (journaling, meditation)

  • 1:1 Reflection

  • Chat with your neighbor / learning partner

Passive Engagement

  • Poll

  • Emoji “Share a heart in the chat if this resonates with you”

  • Self-reflection (“think of a time” or “jot down a quick word”)

We’ll share these together next week!
